Netflix’s hit series “Wednesday,” led by Jenna Ortega, is welcoming a new but familiar face in its upcoming second season. Veteran actor Steve Buscemi has officially signed on to join the cast in a yet-to-be-disclosed role, as confirmed by Deadline sources.
“Wednesday,” which is a spinoff from the iconic Addams Family, follows the enigmatic Wednesday Addams during her time at Nevermore Academy. The series blends elements of dark comedy and supernatural mystery, focusing on Wednesday as she hones her psychic abilities, tackles a local monstrous killing spree, and unravels an old supernatural mystery that once involved her parents. The show is a brainchild of “Smallville” creators Al Gough and Miles Millar and features the unique visual and directorial flair of Tim Burton.
While the specifics of Buscemi’s character are not yet revealed, his involvement is anticipated to add a significant layer of intrigue and talent to the series.

The ensemble cast from the first season included Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, and notable appearances by Thora Birch, Riki Lindhome, and Jamie McShane.
Steve Buscemi brings a rich portfolio of acclaimed performances, including his lead role in HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire,” which garnered him a Golden Globe Award and multiple Emmy and Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations. His recent projects include directing the indie drama “The Listener,” starring Tessa Thompson, and acting opposite Daniel Radcliffe in the TBS comedy series “Miracle Workers.”

The second season of “Wednesday” remains shrouded in mystery, much like its titular character, with further details yet to be revealed. Fans of the series are eagerly awaiting more information about what new adventures and misadventures await Wednesday and her unusual cohort at Nevermore Academy.
When will Season 2 be released?
The Hollywood strikes in 2023 caused a delay in starting production for the MGM Television-produced series. However, it was confirmed in November 2023 that filming for Season 2 would start in late April 2024 in Ireland, a change from Season 1, which was filmed in Romania. The first season’s success made Romania a popular tourist destination, but logistical problems made it necessary to change locations. There’s no set release date for the new season on Netflix yet.
How will Season 2 expand on Season 1?
Details about the plot of Season 2 are still scarce. The show’s creators, Al Gough and Miles Millar, have suggested that more members of the Addams family might appear, as hinted during a Tudum event appearance by the cast. They are also working on a spinoff series about Uncle Fester, which Netflix and MGM Television are producing. Fred Armisen, who played Fester in Season 1, might return. Gough and Millar also mentioned that Season 2 would focus more on Wednesday’s relationship with her mother, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones. Jenna Ortega, now an executive producer, mentioned that the new season would lean more towards horror and be more action-packed, with each episode feeling like a mini-movie.
Are the original cast members returning?
The studio has retained the main actors from Season 1 while the new scripts are being written. This includes Jenna Ortega and others like Gwendoline Christie and Christina Ricci. Despite some characters facing tough situations at the end of Season 1, their return in future episodes isn’t ruled out due to the show’s fantastical nature.
How to watch the series?
Like Season 1, you can watch “Wednesday” on Netflix. Netflix offers three plans: Standard with ads for $6.99 a month, a Standard plan for $15.49 a month, and a Premium plan for $22.99 a month.
