Exciting news is swirling around the Marvel Cinematic Universe, hinting at the introduction of a new Asian superhero. According to a recent rumor on Allkpop, BLACKPINK’s Jennie Kim, also known as Jennie, might be joining the MCU as a character named Seol Hee. Seol Hee, known as Luna Snow, is a relatively new character co-created by Danny Koo, Bill Rosemann, Min Kyun Kim, and JeeHyung Lee for the mobile game Marvel Future Fight.
Luna Snow made her debut in the comic War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas #1 by Greg Pak and Gang Hyuk Lim in 2019. In the story, Luna Snow was initially a member of the K-pop group 4L1T before acquiring her ice-based superpowers. Given Jennie’s background, she seems to be an ideal choice to bring this hero to life in a live-action adaptation. The rumor suggests that Jennie’s Luna Snow will join the MCU’s first Asian superhero team, although it remains uncertain whether this team will be the Agents of Atlas or another group altogether.
Who Are the Agents of Atlas and Tiger Division?
The Agents of Atlas were originally brought to life by writer Jeff Parker and artist Leonard Kirk in the comic book series Agents of Atlas #1 in 2006. While Luna Snow made her first appearance as part of the team during Marvel’s War of the Realms event, she has also been associated with another group called Tiger Division. Tiger Division is a relatively new addition to the comics, debuting in Black Cat Annual #1 in 2021, written by Jed MacKay and illustrated by Juan Ferreyra. Prior to this, Tiger Division made a brief appearance in Taskmaster #3 the same year.
It’s worth noting that while the characters from Tiger Division have not yet appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as of now, two members of the Agents of Atlas have already made their on-screen debut. Jimmy Woo, who is the leader of the Agents of Atlas in the comics, first appeared in the MCU in Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), portrayed by actor Randall Park. Park reprised his role in the film’s sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), as well as in the Disney+ series WandaVision. Shang-Chi, another member of the Agents of Atlas, had his own standalone film titled Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), with actor Simu Liu portraying the character. This film was a significant milestone for the MCU as its first Asian-led project.
A Shang-Chi Sequel and Team-up Is on the Way
In Feb. 2023, Liu teased that his Shang-Chi will team up with other Marvel heroes, saying that fans “might see something sooner than you think.” A Shang-Chi sequel is in development, with director Destin Daniel Cretton returning to both write and direct the film. Cretton will also direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, set to release in 2025, indicating that the team-up Liu teased may actually be one with the Avengers as opposed to the Agents of Atlas or another group.
